Grizzlies Defeat Alaska 5-4 In Shootout

Anchorage, Alaska - The Utah Grizzlies (13-12-0-3) battled back from two separate two-goal deficits and tied the game with two seconds left in regulation before defeating the Alaska Aces 5-4 in a shootout Friday night in Anchorage.

Utah outshot Alaska 8-1 in the first and had three power-plays but trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes.

In the second, Utah fell behind 2-0 but got two power-play goals in 51 seconds from Olivier Labelle (6) and Scott Burt (13) to tie the game at two.

Alaska got a goal late in the second and early in the third to take a 4-2 lead.

With 6:44 left in the third, Utah got a power-play goal from Rob Sirianni as he intercepted an Alaska clearing attempt and fired his fifth goal of the season. Sirianni now has four goals and two assists in his last four games.

Trailing 4-3 with 13 seconds left, Jason Christie called timeout and Scott Burt knocked in a puck with two seconds left for his second of the game to force overtime.

Utah outshot Alaska 6-0 in the overtime but was unable to score.

Andy Sertich scored sudden-death in round number seven of the shootout to give Utah the win.

Utah has now won four their last five games on the road.

The Grizzlies return to action Saturday to play game two of their seven-game road trip. Face-off is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. Utah returns home Friday, January 11 hosting Idaho at the E-Center at 7:05 p.m.
