SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's most senior member of its offensive staff has taken a job with his alma mater, which also happens to be a big in-state rival just 45 miles down I-15.

Utes wide receiver/passing game coordinator Aaron Roderick has accepted an assistant coach position at Brigham Young University, the school announced Wednesday.

Aaron Roderick hired as assistant coach at BYU

Roderick began his coaching career at BYU as a graduate assistant coaching the linebackers. He's had stops at Snow College and Southern Utah before joining the Utes in 2005.

Roderick coached the wide receivers for the Utes, working with greats David Reed, Freddie Brown and Brent Casteel. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2010, but after the Utes hired Norm Chow, Roderick was put back in charge of the wide receivers.

"I'm looking forward to the chance to work at BYU and return to my alma mater," Roderick said. "I'm excited for the opportunity to work with (offensive coordinator) Robert Anae, who I played for when I was at Ricks College. I've always had great respect for Robert."

"Aaron has excellent coaching experience and is a man of character and faith," BYU head football coach Bronco Mendenhall said.

"He is a great recruiter, outstanding position coach, fantastic teacher, master strategist and tireless worker. It's great to have Aaron back at BYU."

His official position assignment for the Cougars will be announced once the entire coaching staff is finalized.
