Although the media seem more infatuated about Jordan Wynn retiring, head coach Kyle Whittingham is more focused on the rest of his team as they come face-to-face with in-state rivals and No. 25 in the nation, BYU.

After coach Whittingham made the announcement that senior quarterback Jordan Wynn was "hanging his football career up," all questions turned to the starting quarterback position this weekend. But Whittingham didn't want to talk about injuries — they wouldn't be discussed unless it is season-ending, like Wynn's situation. Instead, he directed the attention to rivalry week and the rivalry game against their formidable opponents, BYU.

Whether it's Jon Hays or Travis Wilson starting the game, the rivalry between these two universities continues to evolve — for how long, only time will tell. Coach Whittingham's shared his comments about the upcoming game:

"Third week again, just like last year. It's not as foreign to us as it was last year. It doesn't have different feel as the first time through. Our guys will be ready to play. It's an emotional game for both sides. There never is any need to worry about the teams mental state of mind during rivalry week and during rivalry game. We'll prepare this week and finally get a Saturday contest which will be nice. It's a late kick so we're going to have to sit around all day and wait for it but it's the rivalry game nonetheless and there's a lot of excitement that comes with that."

Whittingham comments on the evolving rivalry, "Because of the hiatus we're taking in 2014 and 2015, I don't think I can answer that right now. I think it's definitely changing, but I think everybody will have a better idea four or five years from now exactly what's going on with it, but right now it feels very similar. Not much different than it ever has."

Utah will host BYU Saturday, Sept. 15 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. Kickoff is set at 8:00 p.m. MST.
