SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's season opener against Northern Colorado got off to a slow start, which caused the fans, and me, to start second guessing our game predictions.
At the end of the first quarter, the Utes and Bears were stuck in a scoreless tie. The Utes lone chance at points was in a drive that ended with an underthrown ball from Jordan Wynn intended for Dres Anderson that was intercepted.
I asked Ute fans whether or not they saw the slow start coming. @4thand1sports replied, "Slow start? Yes. Crazy effort from UNC? Yes. Worst underthrow ever for INT? No."
And @utecentral added, "I totally didn't call it. Props not to me."
Some fans couldn't watch the slow start, either due being stuck without the Pac-12 Network or still in class because of the early start time, 5:15 MT.
@GrantTBS tweeted out "keep the updates coming. I am a lone Ute fan in the north east."
@mjakeolsen tweeted out "Game casting the U game during class! #dedication #goutes". Dedication indeed, but probably something most of us fans have done at one point during our education.
The second quarter went a little more like Ute fans had hoped. Jordan Wynn connected with Jake Murphy on a 10 yard TD pass to get on the board. The Utes added another TD on a Travis Wilson QB keeper from three yards out.
@BrandonBrownAZ tweeted out "Is it true Travis Wilson is unstoppable?"
Utes defensive end Nate Fakahafua had a key sack forcing Northern Colorado into a third and long. @crackalacka22 tweeted out "He looks very athletic. I'm excited for him."
By the end of the third quarter, the Utes led 28-0 before eventually cruising to a 41-0 win.
@HotCorner_10 tweeted out "UTES WIN 41-0. Northern Colorado doesn't cross midfield. Good start."
@Utebuntu added, "Utes win 41-0, With yardage differential of 441 to 114. We have only 3/20 in penalties. No fumbles. No false starts. No offsides. I'm happy."
Alright Twitter world, Utes take on Utah State next Friday in Logan, and until then, keep up the good tweets.
