(Photo credit: Jason Olson, Deseret News)SANDY — Stopper Steven McGrath scored from distance in the sixth minute, and the No. 3 Davis Darts survived the rest of the way to beat Fremont, 1-0, in the 5A state title game on Thursday at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Winger Jake Mcrae played the ball from the right side across to McGrath, who strode into it and hit ripped a shot off Fremont's goalie and into the net.

By recording a shutout, Davis sets a state record for fewest goals allowed in a season with four. All year, McGrath, the defenders behind him and Davis goalie Brackin Flitton were sensational, and they came up huge for Davis in the final.

The Darts' high-flying attack was held in check throughout, but Davis' backline made play after play to prevent Fremont from scoring.
