SALT LAKE CITY — If your Monday is anything like mine, you didn't make it to the gym this morning and you thought you might miss your ride to work.

We all need a little love today, so I am gifting you three stories of kindness that should make you feel as if you are being embraced by a pink cloud of cotton candy.

When her phone was lost

Keri D.

"I was visiting family in town at Liberty Park. We took a quick walk, and then I bid them goodbye on their trip home. I was not more than half a mile from the park when my best friend called my fiance's phone. She said, 'Some guy has Keri's phone at the park!' I called my number, and this sweet young dad had my phone. Their family had been enjoying the park when his cute, dark-haired little girl found the phone in the grass. This dad said, "It started ringing, and I almost just left it. Then I remembered how I've lost my phone so many times and not gotten it back. I know how it is, I couldn't just leave it there.

"It was a little miracle that it started to ring just as the family found it. My phone is locked, and they would not have been able to return it to me by searching through my contact info on their own."

Going out of his way

Debbie Z.

"We had just left the grocery store when my husband turned the car sharply in the wrong direction. When I asked him what he was doing, he said, 'Ask this woman carrying heavy bags of groceries if she would like a lift.' She was very surprised and responded very happily, 'Yes!' So we gave her a lift quite a distance to her apartment. She was very thankful for our kindness. My husband is always on the lookout for helping people in small ways all the time."

What goes around, comes around

Rolin B.

"Dorette Brown, who lives in Clearfield and is a crossing guard there, is a unique person. She has become very familiar to the people who travel her route, to and from. She waves, has a friendly comment when people will listen, and folks look forward to her friendly actions at the crossing. The children love her! She usually has a treat for all who would like one.

"Recently, a gentleman was so impressed that he stopped his car and told her how much she helped him with his attitude during the day, and then handed her a $100 bill. She protested, but he insisted. She kept the money, and it was well needed, as she and her husband have a son on a mission and funds are tight. I might mention that she is handicapped, having been injured in an automobile accident when she was a small child. Her positive attitude and demeanor are an inspiration to all who are fortunate enough to meet her."
