PROVO — Just in time for Mother’s Day (May 10), BYU’s Vocal Point has released a new video to honor mothers.

With special guest The All-American Boys Chorus from Costa Mesa, California, Vocal Point performs a touching rendition of “Homeward Bound,” by Marta Keen Thompson.

According to an emailed statement, the song was chosen to speak to mothers who have sent their children out to make their way in the world, hoping for their safe return. With lyrics like “Set me free to find my calling and I’ll return to you somehow,” the song expertly portrays the feeling of longing to see the ones you love, and the video’s direction enhances that feeling.

The addition of a boys choir gives an added layer of the journey of growing up that may be seen from a mother’s point of view. When the boys join the members of Vocal Point in the video, it can easily be viewed as a touching symbolic portrayal of the feeling that many mothers express: no matter how old their children get, they are still babies to their mothers.

As a bonus, the gathering of both musical groups together in the video offers the closure of a joyous reunion, which the song doesn’t explicitly give.

Vocal Point recently received two 2014 CARA awards for best contemporary a cappella album and best religions song, “Spectrum” and “I Stand All Amazed,” respectively.

The All-American Boys Chorus is a professional boychoir since 1970. The group just completed recording “A Charlie Brown Christmas Album” with Grammy nominated pianist David Benoit for release this year.

"Homeward Bound" is available for purchase through iTunes.
