SALT LAKE CITY — As the bobcat population in Utah grows, the cap for the number of permits to hunt or trap bobcats has been raised.
Each hunter and trapper can obtain up to six bobcat permits during the 2014-15 season, and there is no limit on the total number of permits distributed, according to the Division of Wildlife Resources. The Utah Wildlife Board approved the changes Thursday.
Individual hunters and trappers were limited to three bobcat permits during the 2013-14 season, with a cap of 4,600 total permits. The limits are determined by the health of the bobcat population, officials said.
Permits to hunt bobcats will be available to purchase from Oct. 1 to 20. The hunting season starts on Nov. 19 and lasts until Feb. 15.
