SALT LAKE CITY -- Some local farmers brought an important to lawmakers Monday: Protect Utah's farmers.

"Utah agriculture's been a fundamental part of our culture and our economy for 150 years, and we believe it's as important today as it was 100 years ago," said Randy Parker, CEO of the Utah Farm Bureau Federation.

Parker's group held a rally at the State Capitol. Member said local farmers generate $15 billion to the state's bottom line, as well as provide work 70,000 people.

With the down economy, though, it's been tough for farmers to continue producer-quality food. The organization hopes lawmakers will see the importance of helping farmers and ranchers.
