SARATOGA SPRINGS — A high-speed chase that reached speeds of 105 miles per hour ended when the fleeing car crashed.
Saratoga Springs police tried to pull over a car for suspicion of impaired driving around 2:15 a.m. near 100 N. Redwood Road. The driver sped away, instead.
Police pursued, and the chase went south on Redwood Road for about 35 miles, at speeds up to 105 miles per hour. The fleeing driver then drove off Redwood Road, into a field and eventually into a ditch, police said.
The driver, who police identify as 31-year-old Chad Leiffon, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and then booked into the Utah County Jail. Police said he was in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
There was a passenger in the fleeing car, but that person was actually a victim of circumstance and tried to convince the driver to stop, police said.
