PARK CITY — The Deer Valley Resort offers 2,026 acres of alpine skiing, but it also has an “expansive network of mountain biking trails” and announced plans to improve and expand two of its trails, the resort said.
Deer Valley Resort currently offers nearly 70 miles of mountain bike trails, according to the Deer Valley Resort website. However, many of the trails connect with the Park City network of singletrack trails, providing access to a total 400 miles of mountain bike trails. The resort also offers lift-served mountain biking from three chairlifts: Silver Lake Express at Snow Park, Sterling Express at Mid-mountain and Ruby Express at Empire Canyon, the website said.
Deer Valley Resort enlisted world-renowned bike resort development company Gravity Logic to conduct an analysis of its current mountain bike/hike trail system and provide improvement recommendations, the website said. The construction of the recommended trail improvements will begin in June and should be finished by mid-August.
“Gravity Logic is known for having designed and built some of the planet's most well-known, most-ridden and time-tested trails,” Deer Valley resort mountain bike manager Steve Graff said in a news release. “We are excited to work with one of the most prominent designers in the world to create an even greater resort trail system that has more mass appeal for novice to expert bikers.”
One of the scheduled improvements will include a 2- to 3-mile downhill mountain bike intermediate “flow” trail, leading from the top of Bald Mountain to Silver Lake, the website said. While the majority of Deer Valley’s mountain biking trails have been hand-built, this new trail will be machine excavated and in-sloped with berms, rollers and jumps. The trail will be around 4 feet wide instead of a single track trail, which makes up the majority of Deer Valley’s trails, according to the website.
Another improvement will include an extension of the Mid-mountain trail which will lead from Silver Lake to the Deer Crest Trail, the website said. The extension will eliminate the climb from Silver Lake to the top of Bald Eagle, and will instead, circumnavigate Bald Eagle.
Summer operations at the resort run seven days a week from June 19 through Sept. 7 and the chairlifts operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
