THISTLE, Utah County — A head-on collision on U.S. 6 east of Thistle has sent one person to the hospital with critical injuries and closed the road in both directions for a time on Sunday evening, causing delays.

A pickup traveling west left its lane and struck an eastbound Mazda head-on at about 5:40 p.m., Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Chris Bishop said. The driver of the Mazda was flown to a hospital in critical condition.

Troopers are investigating impairment as a contributing factor in the crash, Bishop said.

U.S. 6 was backed up 5 miles in both directions at Red Narrows for a time on Sunday evening, officials said. Drivers were urged to seek an alternate route.
