SALT LAKE CITY — Former Utah House speaker Becky Lockhart died from a rare neurodegenerative brain disease last month at the age of 46, leaving behind her husband and three children. The impact she left on the state of Utah and those that knew her will last longer than her legislative career.
Lockhart was remembered for being the first woman to serve as Utah’s House speaker and an energetic, dedicated and outspoken leader. Throughout her career, Lockhart became a powerful force in the legislature, working for what she felt was an appropriate way to correct the various issues affecting Utahns.
In an effort to highlight the impact Lockhart had on the state of Utah and to all those who came to know her, Utah filmmaker Ryan Hinman was asked by one of Lockhart’s daughters to film the memorial service and funeral. Hinman published the tribute video this week.
Hinman, who owns a wedding videographer business in the Salt Lake area, shared the video with KSL.com.
