SALT LAKE CITY — Recent studies have shown that there are more single than married individuals in the U.S., and a map was released Thursday to show the highest-concentrated areas of unmarried men and women.

The Pew Research Center compiled census data on the number of unmarried men and women ages 25 to 34 in major metropolitan areas of the U.S. However, the Pew report said they were not able to calculate the “marriage market” statistics for about one-third of the metro areas due to a mismatch in geographic codes.

The map statistics show the number of single men compared to the number of single women in each area and also includes the ratios of employed single men and women.

According to the Pew statistics, St. George is the best location for single women in Utah, with 133 single men per 100 single women. The Ogden/Clearfield had 131 single men per 100 single women with a total of 18,228 single men and 13,928 single women.

The Provo/Orem area had a 129:100 ratio, with 13,894 single men and 10,757 single women. Salt Lake City had a 117 single men per 100 single women, with a total of 51,554 eligible men and 44,121 eligible women.

Coastal California also had higher numbers of single men than single women. Men looking for a spouse find the best odds in the southern states where there are high ratios of unmarried women to unmarried men.
