HEBER CITY — A man who claimed in bank records and on social media to be a Park City police officer, a special deputy U.S. marshal and a U.S. Army Special Forces sergeant has pleaded guilty to charges of communications fraud and theft.

Documents filed in 4th District Court show that Jeremy Keith Taulborg admitted to writing a check for more than $28,000 on a closed bank account in February to buy an Audi sedan from a Heber City car dealership. Taulborg, 27, also admitted to stealing property from an ex-girlfriend following their breakup in March, court records show.

In exchange for Taulborg's guilty pleas, a judge agreed to dismiss one additional count of communications fraud, a second-degree felony, and one count of providing false information to law enforcement, a class B misdemeanor.

Taulborg's bank records showed his account never had sufficient funds to cover the purchase of the Audi or second car that he was accused of buying with a bogus check, according to investigators. Those bank records also showed that Taulborg claimed to be a Park City police officer.

Taulborg has never worked for the Park City Police Department, according to city officials. Likewise, he has never served as a special deputy U.S. marshal, an Army Special Forces weapons sergeant or a police officer in Ohio, as he allegedly claimed on social media websites.

Taulborg will be sentenced July 2. He faces up to 15 years in prison for the communications fraud conviction and up to six months in jail for the theft conviction.
