SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's Republican Party has a new leader. We'll talk to James Evans about his goals for the party and the chances for reforms to the nomination process. Plus, helping veterans face life after war: A closer look at the growing problems of suicide and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and what's being done. And we'll take a look back at a very memorable Memorial Day weekend. Photographers tell the stories behind the images that captured the floods of 1983 all in this Sunday Edition.

Segment 1

Newly elected GOP chairman James Evans leads the state's strongest party. But he is taking over at a time when voter turnout is low and the party's candidate-nomination process is under attack. We visited with him about his vision for his party.

Segment 2

This weekend, millions of Americans are honoring those who have died in battle servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. But many of our troops who made it home continue to face battles. Last year the military suffered the highest number of suicides ever recorded. We've been at war for more than a decade. And now, soldier suicides now outpace combat deaths. But there is help. Sunday, we are sharing one man's journey that took him to the edge of suicide and what brought him back.

Segment 3

Walk downtown and you will most likely encounter a panhandler. But they are also positioning themselves in dangerous spots near traffic. Doug Wright offers his opinion on another way to help the homeless.

It's been a beautiful Memorial Day weekend but 30 years ago the warm temperatures turned downtown State Street into a river. Many of the still pictures you've seen of that flooding were taken by two young photographers for the Deseret News. News Specialist Peter Rosen shares their memories.
