ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — A 31-year-old Utah man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with one of two slayings in a Nevada house last year.
Jeremiah Juber of Hurricane, Utah, admitted in court papers filed Jan. 31 that he killed 57-year-old Mark Parenti with help from co-defendant Ryan Wood at Wood's home in Mesquite, Nev., in April 2013.
He awaits sentencing April 4 in Clark County District Court in Las Vegas. He is expected to be sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Both Juber and Wood were arrested in April 2013 in the slayings of Parenti and 50-year-old Michael Eldredge, both of Mesquite.
Juber is accused of placing a plastic bag over Parenti's head until he could no longer breathe.
The Spectrum of St. George reports a district judge found Wood incompetent to participate in his own defense and ordered him sent to a Nevada state mental health facility for further evaluation.
