GOING YARD? — Donovan Mitchell's basketball career probably wouldn't have looked the same if it were not for a wrist injury in high school. In fact, it might not have happened at all.

"I think my career path would've been baseball if I hadn't broken my wrist," Mitchell said in 2019. "That really changed my entire life, to be completely honest with you. Not just from a sports standpoint, but from a work ethic standpoint, too."

He eventually settled for life as an NBA athlete, but he still gets to have some perks of being a pro ball player, too.

Mitchell, due to his father, Donovan Sr., being the director of player relations and community engagement for the Mets, still gets to hang around Citi Field. On Thursday, Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor let the Jazz star borrow some batting gloves and Mitchell proved he could still rake.

Did he go yard? It's hard to tell, but it was an impressive display of hitting none the less.

While Michell likely won't be donning a Mets jersey anytime soon (at least not in a professional sense), his team back in Salt Lake City was busy preparing for the unveiling of their new uniforms.

On Thursday, the J-note statue that stands outside of VIvint Arena was changed from black to purple with snow-capped mountains added along the base in anticipation of the team's rebrand that'll be announced on Friday at 11 a.m.

So is purple coming back? Yes, at least in some capacity. But the yellow, black and white design that made its way into Jazz graphics will likely be at the forefront. The heavily-leaked design — featuring three new jerseys — is expected to be revealed on Friday with a purple mountains jersey serving as an alternate.
