Olympian report, Austen and Morrissey return

SALT LAKE CITY (July 28, 2008) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the club has placed both infielder Matt Brown and pitcher Kevin Jepsen on the Temporary Inactive List as both players reported today to begin play with the USA Olympic Team. In other movement, right-handed pitcher David Austen has been activated from the disabled list and infielder Adam Morrissey has been recalled to Triple-A Salt Lake from Double-A Arkansas.

Brown, 25, has appeared in 93 games for the Bees in 2008, hitting .326 with 32 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 67 RBI and four stolen bases. He was named a 2008 Pacific Coast League All-Star and was named PCL MVP following the game. He earned PCL Batter of the Week on April 14, Angels' Minor League Player of the Month in April, and was also selected to participate in the 2008 Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby. In five games with the Angels this season, Brown owns a 0.77 batting average with one double and two RBI. The Bellevue, Wash. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 10th round of the 2001 draft.

Jepsen, 24, has appeared in 13 games for the Bees in 2008, owning a 1-3 record and 2.53 ERA with two saves. In 25 games for the Double-A Arkansas Travelers, he registered a 2-1 record with a 1.42 ERA and 11 saves. Jepsen was also named to Team USA for the 2008 All-Star Futures Game. The Anaheim, Calif. native was originally selected by the Angels in the second round of the 2002 draft.

Austen, 27, has appeared in seven games for the Bees in 2008, owning a 1-1 record with a 4.38 ERA. In five games for Arkansas this season, Austen has a 0-1 record with a 4.61 ERA. He was placed on the disabled list on June 21 with a right groin strain. The St. Petersburg, Fla. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 15th round of the 2003 draft.

Morrissey, 26, has appeared in 28 games for the Bees in 2008, hitting .281 with six doubles, five home runs and 13 RBI. He hit .243 with eight doubles, five home runs and 24 RBI in 57 games for the Travelers this season. Originally signed by the Chicago Cubs in 1999, the Gosford, Australia native signed as a free agent with the Angels prior to the 2007 season.
