Youngstown State eliminates Indiana State, 5-2

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Patrick O'Brien pitched into the seventh inning and Youngstown State earned its first NCAA tournament victory, holding off Indiana State 5-2 on Saturday in a regional elimination game.

The Penguins (17-37) will play Sunday afternoon against Stanford. Indiana State (35-18) was eliminated.

O'Brien threw 6 1-3 innings, allowing eight hits. He walked three and struck out two.

Indiana State took the lead when Landon Curry scored on a wild pitch in the first inning, but Youngstown State answered with three runs over the next two innings. Lorenzo Arcuri tied the game with an RBI single in the second inning before the Penguins added two more in the third on Brent Gillespie's sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch taken by Shane Willoughby.

The Sycamores got within a run in the top of the fourth on Connor McClain's RBI single before Youngstown State added two more runs in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by Alex Larivee and a single by Josh White.
