SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah has partially reinstated suspended receiver Cory Butler-Byrd a day after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief for damaging a police car and building last month.
The school said Tuesday that coach Kyle Whittingham will allow Butler-Byrd to participate in practice and other team activities immediately but he will remain suspended from playing in games indefinitely.
University spokeswoman Liz Abel said in an email that there's no timetable for Butler-Byrd to return to competition and he will not be available to speak to reporters.
Butler-Byrd on Monday pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge as part of a deal with prosecutors that allows his record to be cleared if he stays out of trouble for a year, undergoes mental health counseling and pays about $1,700 in restitution.
