UNDATED (AP) — Tiger Woods has pulled out of the PGA Championship later this month, marking the first time in his career he will miss all four majors in a year. Woods is rehabbing from back surgery and hasn't played since last August. The PGA Championship is July 28-31 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Cardinals have placed Jhonny Peralta back on the disabled list because of a strained ligament in his surgically repaired left thumb. He missed the first 57 games of the season before returning June 7. The 34-year-old Peralta is batting .221 with five homers and 13 RBIs.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The Orlando Magic will be without recently acquired guard Jodie Meeks indefinitely after he had surgery on his right foot. Meeks broke the foot while with Detroit and it caused him to miss most of last season. He was acquired by the Magic in a trade last month.
BERN, Switzerland (AP) — British sprinter Mark Cavendish has withdrawn from the Tour de France in a bid to improve his medal chances at next month's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Cavendish has won four stages on this year's Tour and would have been a contender to win Sunday's final stage into Paris.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The upcoming Rio Olympics are not being viewed favorably by a significant majority of Brazilians. A new poll says nearly two out of three Brazilians believe that hosting the Summer Games will cause the country more harm than good.
