LAS VEGAS (AP) — A troubled sports book operator has cut a deal with Nevada gambling regulators over taking unlawful bets and making inaccurate payouts. The Nevada Gaming Commission agreed on Thursday to let CG Technology pay a $1.75 million fine to the state and make a $250,000 donation to resolve the four-count complaint. CG Technology had faced having its license revoked.
DENVER (AP) — WNBA champion Sue Bird is joining the Denver Nuggets' front office while continuing her own professional basketball playing career. Tim Connelly, the Nuggets' president of basketball operations, said Bird's new title is basketball operations associate. In a statement, Connelly said, "We are very excited to have Sue join our organization." Bird recently completed her 16th season in the WNBA with her third championship, all with the Seattle Storm.
BOSTON (AP) — World Series MVP Steve Pearce is staying with the Red Sox. The journeyman first baseman agreed to a $6.25 million, one-year contract with Boston on Friday. The 35-year-old Pearce was a free agent after completing a $12.5 million, two-year deal that he got from Toronto in December 2016. He earned an additional $150,000 bonus for his selection as World Series MVP. His new deal also includes award bonuses.
UNDATED (AP) — Bol Bol had 26 points and nine rebounds, and No. 13 Oregon beat No. 15 Syracuse 80-65 in the consolation game of the 2K Classic on Friday. Payton Pritchard added 18 points for the Ducks (3-1) and Kenny Wooten had 12 in the first-ever meeting between the ACC and Pac-12 programs. Tyus Battle scored 17 points to lead the Orange (2-2), who lost for the second time in less than 24 hours. Syracuse fell to UConn 83-76 in a semifinal on Thursday night.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 20 points as No. 16 Virginia Tech used a 23-2 run before halftime to overpower Northeastern 88-60 and advance to the championship of the Charleston Classic on Friday. The Huskies (2-2) moved in front 24-23 on a three by Donnell Gresham with six minutes left in the half. That's when the Hokies (3-0) took control with its game-breaking run. The Hokies will face either No. 23 Purdue or Davidson in Sunday's title game.
