NEW YORK (AP) — The second day of play at the U.S. Tennis Open is on the schedule today. The women's top seed, Serena Williams, has her first match this evening as does men's No. 2 Andy Murray.

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte (LAHK'-tee) was on ABC's "Good Morning America" show today and said he isn't sure if he will return to Brazil to face a charge of filing a false police report over a gas station encounter during the Olympics. Lochte said his legal team is dealing with the situation and added that he has offered to reimburse fellow swimmer James Feigen (FEE'-gen) for a nearly $11,000 fine Feigen paid to resolve legal issues and leave the country.

UNDATED (AP) — Boston remains two games back of Toronto in the American League East while Baltimore has fallen four back. The first-place Jays beat the Orioles last night in Baltimore while the Red Sox blew by Tampa Bay.

UNDATED (AP) — By not playing last night, the Giants were able to reduce the lead the Dodgers have over them in the National League West. With the Giants not scheduled and watching the game on TV, the Dodgers were beaten by the Rockies, reducing their lead in the NL West to just 1 ½ games.

UNDATED (AP) — The European Ryder Cup team is set to face the best from the U.S. next month in Minnesota. European captain Darren Clarke filled out his roster today by adding Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Thomas Pieters with his Captains Picks. U.S. Captain Davis Love III will complete his roster over the next few weeks.
