CHICAGO (AP) — Anthony Rizzo hit a three-run homer, Jon Lester won his 10th game and the Chicago Cubs stopped an eight-game losing streak against the New York Mets with a 5-1 victory. The All-Star slugger is batting .339 with three homers and 10 RBIs in July.
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Yankees reached the .500 mark by nipping AL East-leading Baltimore 2-1. The difference in the game was a solo homer by Alex Rodriguez, the 696th of A-Rod's career.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)— The Indians will be without starting catcher Yan Gomes for the next two months to mend a separated shoulder suffered Sunday. Gomes is hitting just .165 with eight homers and 32 RBIs in 71 games.
MIAMI (AP) — Four-time Pro Bowl running back Arian Foster has agreed to a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins as he tries for a comeback from a torn Achilles tendon suffered last season with Houston. Foster's most recent Pro Bowl season was 2014, when he rushed for 1,246 yards and caught passes for 327 yards in 13 games.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Former Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre will be making another special trip back to Lambeau Field. The Packers say Favre will appear at a halftime ceremony of Green Bay's game on Oct.16 against Dallas. The ceremony will honor Favre's induction to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which will take place on Aug. 6 in Canton, Ohio.
