No. 4 Michigan has a chance to make its first trip to the College Football Playoff by beating the 10th-ranked Buckeyes then taking care of Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship. The game kicking off at noon Eastern is one of a full slate of games matching longtime rivals.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Top-ranked Alabama hosts rival Auburn this afternoon in the annual Iron Bowl with memories of last year's loss still fresh. The Crimson Tide lost a shot at the SEC title with that defeat but ultimately won a fifth national title under coach Nick Saban. Ahead of today's rematch with the 7-4 Tigers, 11-0 Alabama has already secured an SEC championship game berth against No. 5 Georgia.
LILLE, France (AP) — France has kept its hopes alive in the Davis Cup final. The French doubles team of Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert beat Croatia today 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6. Croatia headed into the second day of the final with a 2-0 lead over the defending champions.
GRENOBLE, France (AP) — World champion Nathan Chen won the last round of figure skating's Grand Prix series and secured a spot in next month's final. After an untidy short program yesterday, the American outclassed the field in the free skate, scoring 184.64 for an event-winning total of 271.58. The victory ensured Chen a spot in the Dec. 6-9 final in Vancouver, Canada, reserved for the top six skaters or pairs in each discipline from the Grand Prix series of six events.
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Five-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has clinched the pole position for the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It's the Mercedes driver's 11th pole of the season and record-extending 83rd of his career. For the second straight year, four-time F1 champion Sebatsian Vettel led during the championship only to finish second behind Hamilton.
