Mets 2B Cabrera leaves with sore left knee

NEW YORK (AP) — Mets second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera left New York's game Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies with one out in the first inning because of a sore left knee.

He collided with Phillies' first baseman Tommy Joseph while beating out a one-out bunt single. As Joseph reached for pitcher Vince Velazquez's high throw, Cabrera's left arm made contact with Joseph's left hip. Cabrera appeared to twist awkwardly after the collision. After safely reaching first base, Cabrera doubled over in pain and was immediately attended to by the Mets' training staff and manager Terry Collins, but remained in the game.

The next batter, Kelly Johnson, lined a single to right field, and Cabrera was noticeably limping as he advanced from first to second. After the play, Cabrera was immediately removed from the game and escorted in to the dugout by Mets' trainer Ray Ramirez.

Cabrera missed 17 games with a strained patella tendon in his left knee, returning on August 19 and was batting .438 (14 for 32) with three home runs and nine runs batted in since returning to the New York lineup.

Wilmer Flores pinch-ran for Cabrera and remained in the game at third base. Jose Reyes shifted over to play shortstop.
