Memo Gidley released from Daytona hospital

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Memo Gidley has been released from a hospital following three separate surgeries for injuries suffered in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Gidley was injured roughly three hours into the race Jan. 25. He had his first surgery at Halifax Health to repair a broken left leg and left elbow.

A second surgery repaired a compression fracture in his lower back. The final surgery last week was to repair a fracture in his left heel.

He was discharged Thursday and was being medically transported via airplane to Northern California to begin his rehabilitation.

Gidley praised the care he's received at Halifax Health in a statement and said he will work hard on his recovery "for all the fans, friends and family who have been pulling for me since the accident."
