ROME (AP) — Lazio says it has hired former Argentina manager Marcelo Bielsa as the new coach of the Serie A club.

In a two-line statement on the club's website, Lazio said that Bielsa "and his coaching staff will be in Rome on Saturday."

After a spell in club management in South America, the 60-year-old Argentine coached his national team from 1998-2004 before taking over at Chile from 2007-11 and then moving to Europe. He coached Athletic Bilbao, and then Marseille in 2014-15 - before leaving after the first match of the following season.

Bielsa becomes Lazio's third manager in three months. The club fired Stefano Pioli in April and put former player Simone Inzaghi in charge following a 4-1 derby loss to Roma.
