STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Something will have to give when Mississippi State brings the Southeastern Conference's leading rusher into No. 7 Auburn to face one of the league's stingiest run defenses. Mississippi State's Kylin Hill has run for over 100 yards in each of his team's first four games. Auburn ranks second in the SEC in run defense.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The vaunted ground games that have fueled the Southeastern Conference's football dominance for years have given way to aerial shows this season. Twelve of the 14 SEC teams have passed for more yards than they've run for. That includes former rush-oriented programs like No. 2 Alabama and No. 4 LSU, both off to 4-0 starts on the strength of strong passing games.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee linebackers Will Ignont and Shanon Reid and wide receiver Jacquez Jones have left the team. Ignont started two of Tennessee's first three games but didn't play at all last week in a loss to No. 9 Florida. Reid and Jones hadn't made any starts this year. Tennessee has this week off before hosting No. 3 Georgia on Oct. 5.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vanderbilt is ready to put the toughest three-game start in program history in its rearview mirror. That doesn't mean they will risk overlooking Northern Illinois from the Mid-American Conference. Vanderbilt quarterback Riley Neal knows the challenges awaiting Vanderbilt. He was 0-4 against Northern Illinois while playing at Ball State before transferring to the Commodores. The Commodores are the only program to play a pair of top five opponents in the first three games.
