UNDATED (AP) — The unusual aspect of this year's freshman class is that three of the very top guys signed with the same team and play similar positions. Duke's RJ Barrett, Cam Reddish and Zion Williamson signed with the Blue Devils as consensus top-five recruits.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa has been one of the nation's most electric quarterbacks, flinging one touchdown pass after another without a single interception. Grant Delpit and the LSU defensive backs welcome the challenge. Tua vs. the Tigers amounts to the biggest matchup of the top-ranked Crimson Tide's game against No. 4 LSU in Baton Rouge.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — No. 11 Kentucky has been dominating opponents defensively this season. The Wildcats will face possibly their stiffest challenge Saturday against No. 6 Georgia with the SEC East division title on the line. The Wildcats enter the showdown with the nation's top scoring defense, giving up 13 points per game and just 12.3 in league play. Kentucky hasn't allowed more than 20 points in a game this season.
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi has won part of its appeal of NCAA sanctions against the football program. A committee has overturned the penalty restricting the school from hosting unofficial recruiting visits. This season's bowl ban and other penalties still stand. The ruling closes a six-year case against Ole Miss in which the NCAA found an "unconstrained culture of booster involvement in football recruiting."
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma receiver Lee Morris and Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius are among the top players in the nation who started their careers as walk-ons. Many of the nation's top-tier programs have key players who started their college careers without scholarships.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee is delaying the start of construction on a Neyland Stadium renovation project to review all aspects of the plan. Athletic director Phillip Fulmer says "we simply need time to study all ideas of scope and design" for the project and that delaying it would be "financially prudent."
NEW YORK (AP) — NCAA triple-double record holder Sabrina Ionescu headlines The Associated Press women's basketball preseason All-America team. The Oregon junior has 10 triple doubles in her career and received 29 votes from the 31-member national media panel that selects the AP Top 25 each week. She is joined on the team by Louisville's Asia Durr, UConn's Katie Lou Samuelson, Notre Dame's Arike Ogunbowale and Baylor's Kalani Brown.
