COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — No. 6 Ohio State will try not to look past in-state visitor Miami Ohio before tougher games begin. The Buckeyes' last tuneup game, against the Mid-American conference foe, comes before a stretch of eight straight Big Ten conference games culminating at Michigan. Ohio State coach Ryan Day says his team has a chance to be great if they can stay on task and play with few mistakes. They are 39-point favorites against Miami Ohio.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa forward Cordell Pemsl has been arrested for suspected drunken driving and suspended from the team. The Hawkeyes say in news release that the team suspended Pemsl indefinitely following his arrest early Friday. Iowa City authorities say Pemsl had bloodshot eyes and registered a blood alcohol content of .151 on a breath test when he was pulled over at around 3 a.m. The legal limit to drive is .08. Pemsl has played in 67 games for Iowa, averaging 7.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A former football recruiter who is suing Michigan State says he urged coach Mark Dantonio to reject a player who subsequently was convicted of sexual assault. Curtis Blackwell says Dantonio chose Auston Robertson in 2016 over the objections of staff. His remarks were made during a deposition, which is part of a lawsuit against Dantonio and other officials. Blackwell's contract wasn't renewed in 2017.
EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio has seen the Spartans bounce back from difficult losses to make a run in Big Ten play. He is banking on a similar scenario, starting with the game at Northwestern on Saturday. Dantonio is seeking his 110th win at Michigan State, which would be a program record. Northwestern opened with a loss to Stanford, but beat UNLV last weekend.
UNDATED (AP) — Indiana coach Tom Allen heads into Saturday's game with some of the same concerns he had last week. The running game still hasn't gotten off the ground, starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. still is trying to get healthy and Allen still needs to see more consistency. So after another week of problem-solving, Allen expects to see changes Saturday against UConn _ regardless of who starts at quarterback. The Huskies understand as they try to snap a 17-game losing streak against FBS teams.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Boston College and Rutgers face off for the first time in 15 years. Both are coming off bad losses heading into Saturday's game at SHI Stadium. Rutgers and Boston College were founding member of the Big East Football Conference, meeting in the inaugural league game on Aug. 31, 1991. The former conference rivals have met 27 times with BC holding a 19-6-1 advantage. The Eagles won the last game 21-10 in 2004. Boston College joined the ACC in 2005, while Rutgers joined the Big Ten in 2014.
