MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — CJ Massinburg had 43 points and 14 rebounds as Buffalo pulled off another big upset against a power program, stunning No. 13 West Virginia 99-94 in overtime. Jeremy Harris added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Bulls in the season opener for both teams. Buffalo grabbed attention last March when the 13th-seeded Bulls blew out No. 4 seed Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Marial Shayok scored 20 points, Nick Weiler-Babb had 16 with six assists and Iowa State, minus star guard Lindell Wigginton, throttled Missouri 76-59 in a matchup of old Big 12 rivals. Michael Jacobson scored 15 points for the Cyclones (2-0), who avenged a blowout loss in Columbia from last season with a surprisingly complete performance.
FORT BLISS, Texas (AP) — Kerwin Roach II made two late 3-pointers to help Texas reach overtime, where the Longhorns did just enough for a 73-71 victory against Arkansas in the Armed Forces Classic. Roach led Texas with 18 points.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Davide Moretti had career highs with 17 points with five 3-pointers as Texas Tech beat Mississippi Valley State 84-52. The Red Raiders haven't trailed in their two games after scoring the first nine points Friday against Mississippi Valley. That came three nights after their season-opening 50-point victory over Incarnate Word. Jarrett Culver added 12 points for Tech. Jordan Evans led 0-2 Mississippi Valley with 16 points.
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma hosts rival Oklahoma State on Saturday. The Sooners need a win to stay within reach of a spot in the College Football Playoff. With no marquee wins on their resume and an early loss to Texas, the Sooners have no margin for error. They also are trying to keep their place atop the Big 12 standings. Oklahoma State becomes bowl eligible with a win in the annual Bedlam rivalry game.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — No. 15 Texas has gone from Big 12 leader and College Football Playoff contender to conference chaser after consecutive losses by a combined four points. Texas Tech has also lost its last two games. But the Red Raiders can get bowl eligible with a win Saturday night over the Longhorns. They did that last November in their regular season finale that likely saved coach Kliff Kingsbury's job. Texas will now likely have to win its last three games and get help to get into the Big 12 title game.
MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Kansas heads to Kansas State on Saturday knowing that the Jayhawks are already in the market for a new coach. The Wildcats are left to wonder whether Bill Snyder is also coaching his final Sunflower Showdown. The team has struggled all season, and many think the 79-year-old Snyder may call it a career.
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State sophomore guard Lindell Wigginton, a preseason All-Big 12 selection, showed up to Friday's game against Missouri with a cast on his left foot and could be out of action for a considerable period of time. The Cyclones have yet to announce what Wigginton's injury is or how long they'll be without him. But the fact that Wigginton was using a scooter to get around isn't a good sign for either him or the Cyclones.
