GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Devin Vassell scored 13 points, M.J. Walker added 12 and Florida State upset No. 6 Florida 63-51. The Seminoles extended their series winning streak to six. FSU avoided its first 0-2 start since 2000 thanks to suffocating defense that forced the rival Gators into 16 turnovers and a woeful shooting performance.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Jordan Nwora scored 21 points to lead No. 5 Louisville, which capitalized on some streaky shooting, to a 78-55 victory in its home opener over Youngstown State. The Cardinals (2-0) made the first 11 shots to jump out to a 24-8 lead.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Mamadi Diakite had 19 points and 13 rebounds and No. 11 Virginia used a 29-6 run spanning halftime to pull away for a 65-34 victory over James Madison. The Cavaliers (2-0) led by just 22-20 until Kihei Clark's 3-pointer started a 9-0 burst for Virginia. A 3-pointer by Darius Banks ended that, making it 31-23 at the half.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Brandon Childress hit a jumper with 0.9 seconds remaining, and Wake Forest rallied to beat Columbia 65-63. Chaundee Brown scored 20 points and Childress finished with 11 to lead the Demon Deacons. They trailed by four points in the final minute before finding a way to avoid their third home-opening loss in the past decade.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Derryck Thornton scored 22 points, Nik Popovic had 15, and Boston College rallied past South Florida for a 74-60 victory. Boston College capitalized on a 38-29 rebounding advantage, led by Steffon Mitchell with 13 and Popovic with eight.

UNDATED (AP) — AJ Dillon has been Boston College's workhorse for three years. He outdid himself against Florida State. The junior running back carried a career-high 40 times in the Eagles' loss for the most by a Football Bowl Subdivision player since Boise State's Alexander Mattison ran the same number of times against Fresno State last December. Army tied Air Force for most team rushing attempts when it ran 78 times for a national season-high 498 yards against Massachusetts.

UNDATED (AP) — LSU is an overwhelming No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll after beating Alabama in a 1-2 matchup, and Minnesota moved into the top 10 for the first time in 57 years. After two weeks of historically close voting at the top of poll, LSU received 54 first-place votes in the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank. Ohio State was No. 2, Clemson was third and Alabama fell to No. 4.

NEW YORK (AP) — It didn't count in the standings, but the most shocking game of the opening week of women's basketball was No. 1 Oregon stunning the U.S. women's national team. The Americans played a four-game college tour that had them face Stanford, Oregon State, Texas A&M and the Ducks over a seven-day stretch.
