UNDATED (AP) — Some of the most experienced head football coaches in the Atlantic Coast Conference aren’t exactly coaches anymore. North Carolina, Florida State and Virginia Tech have hired former head coaches to advisory or analytical positions in the past 10 months. The programs benefit from having an extra voice of experience. The ex-coaches see their new jobs as a way to stay involved in the sport without having to do any on-field coaching or recruiting.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina needs graduate transfers Christian Keeling and Justin Pierce to help offset the losses of the team’s top five scorers. Keeling averaged 18.7 points and 6.9 rebounds at Charleston Southern last year. Pierce averaged 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds at William & Mary. They’ll be needed to replenish North Carolina’s perimeter game with the loss of first-round NBA draft picks Coby White, Cameron Johnson and Nassir Little.
