SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse has lost four nonconference games, two in a row at home, and that has placed the Orange in familiar territory. They have one quality road win as Atlantic Coast Conference play looms and need to pad their resume for postseason consideration.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — There's little question where No. 2 Clemson has a clear edge on Notre Dame: It's playoff experience. The undefeated Tigers are in their fourth straight College Football Playoff while the unbeaten Fighting Irish are in the final four for the first time. Clemson believes its experience breeds a confidence it can carry into the national semifinal game at the Cotton Bowl.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Markell Johnson had career highs of 27 points and five 3-pointers to help North Carolina State upset No. 7 Auburn 78-71. Devon Daniels scored all 15 of his points after halftime for the Wolfpack. J'Von McCormick scored 14 points to lead the Tigers, who had a season-high 25 turnovers.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Ty Jerome had a season-high 25 points and No. 5 Virginia added to its perfect start with a 69-52 victory over South Carolina. The Cavaliers improved to 10-0 for the first time since they opened with 19 straight wins on their way to the Atlantic Coast Conference title for the 2014-15 season. They showed off their usual stout defense while sending the Gamecocks (4-6) to their third straight loss.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 12 of his 20 points in the second half, and No. 13 Virginia Tech beat North Carolina A&T 82-60 for its fifth consecutive victory. The Hokies went 15 for 17 at the free-throw line and enjoyed a 42-20 rebounding advantage over the Aggies. Kerry Blackshear Jr. had 17 points and nine rebounds, and Justin Robinson finished with 14 points, seven boards and six assists.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Jose Alvarado scored 20 points to help Georgia Tech hold on in the closing minutes for a 69-65 win at Arkansas. The win comes a game after the Yellow Jackets suffered an embarrassing 79-69 home defeat to Gardner-Webb, and in a game they trailed by as many as five points early in the second half.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Anthony Lawrence scored 17 points and Miami defeated Houston Baptist 80-73 to end a four-game skid, the longest in coach Jim Larranaga's eight seasons at the school. D.J. Vasiljevic's layup and 3-pointer keyed a 7-0 run that allowed the Hurricanes (6-4) to stretch their lead to 65-54 with 8:42 left to play.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson has added a pair of five-star players in Georgia cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. and Florida receiver Frank Ladson among the 26 recruits the Tigers signed. Wednesday marked the start of the early signing period. The Tigers' large class means they won't have much to do between now and national signing day on Feb. 6. Clemson also added Connecticut quarterback Taisun Phommachanh to bolster a position where four players have transferred from the program the past year.
