RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — There's gold for American BMX cyclist Connor Fields. He won with a time of 34.622 seconds. This is the first time that Team USA has won BMX since the American-born action sport became an Olympic medal event in 2008.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — American pole vaulter Jenn Suhr is slated to go for the gold tonight in Rio but she remains sick. Her husband and coach Rick Suhr says his wife has been "coughing up blood" from a respiratory infection. Suhr is projected to be a medal favorite.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Ryan Lochte (LAHK'-tee) has apologized for his behavior in Rio. In a post on Instagram, Lochte says he should have been more "careful and candid" about how he described what happened. A spokesman for the local organizers of the Rio Games said they "accept and appreciate" Lochte's apology.

NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball has cleared Philadelphia's Ryan Howard and Washington's Ryan Zimmerman of the charge they used human growth hormone. As you might recall, Al-Jazeera America ran a documentary last December claiming the two had used HGH.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — For the third time, the city of New Orleans is going to host the NBA All-Star Game. League officials have announced that New Orleans will host the game instead of Charlotte, North Carolina, which was stripped of the honor because of a state law that limits anti-discrimination protections.
