FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Atlanta Falcons safety Keanu Neal has suffered a season-ending injury for the second straight year. A torn left Achilles tendon suffered in Atlanta's loss at Indianapolis ended Neal's season. He spent all but one game in 2018 on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury in the opening game.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills backup defensive tackle Harrison Phillips will miss the remainder of the season after tearing a knee ligament. Coach Sean McDermott called the injury "unfortunate and sad" in making the announcement Monday. Phillips was hurt during the first play of Buffalo's final defensive series in a 21-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals have released veteran receiver Michael Crabtree after he played just two games. The 11-year veteran was signed by the Cardinals on Aug. 21. He didn't play in the first game of the season while learning the offense and then caught four passes for 22 yards over the next two weeks against Baltimore and Carolina.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Antonio Brown is going back to school. A Central Michigan University spokeswoman says Brown began taking online courses last week. Brown played for the Chippewas from 2007 to 2009 before Pittsburgh drafted him in 2010. In March, the Steelers traded the four-time Pro Bowl receiver to Oakland, which released him before he played in a game. Brown played one game with New England before being cut after being accused of rape and other sexual misconduct.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost says he will be retiring at the end of the season. That will end a nine-year tenure that included two American League pennants and the franchise's first World Series title in 30 years. The Royals have suffered their second consecutive season with at least 100 losses. The 65-year-old Yost will retire as the club's career leader in wins with 744 to date.
