Former BYU golfer Blair makes cut at first PGA major

PINEHURST, N.C. — Former BYU golfer Zac Blair was all over the place Friday on the second day of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club. But when the round concluded, there was only one important position for him.

On the leaderboard.

Blair shot a 4-over-par 74 to finish in an eight-way tie for 60th — just enough to make the cut in his first PGA Tour event.

Blair finished on the cut line with such notables as former British Open winner Justin Leonard and former Masters champ Zach Johnson. The recent BYU graduate made birdie on the fourth and 13th holes, but carded bogey on holes No. 2, 3, 5, 10, 11 and 16.

Martin Kaymer carded a 65 for the second day in a row to set a 36-hole scoring record for a U.S. Open, blitzing to the top of the leaderboard with a two-day 130. Brendon Todd is second at 136, and Kevin Na and Brandt Snedeker are third at 137.
