FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Gerrell Martin scored a career-high 26 points and Jason Brickman scored 14 and compiled 12 more assists as he climbed into fourth place nationally with 987 career assists as LIU Brooklyn defeated Sacred Heart 80-75 in a makeup game Tuesday night.

Brickman scored eight points — including back-to-back 3-pointers — as the Blackbirds (9-18, 4-10 Northeast Conference) opened on a 13-6 run after halftime and shot 71.4 percent in the half.

The game, postponed by snow Feb. 13, leaves LIU Brooklyn a game behind Central Connecticut for the final Northeast tourney berth. The teams meet Thursday.

Sacred Heart (4-25, 1-13) closed the game on an 11-4 flurry but it wasn't enough to catch the Blackbirds and end a 12-game skid. Evan Kelley led the Pioneers with 15 points, Phil Gaetano scored 11 with nine assists.

E.J. Reed scored 14 with 11 rebounds for LIU Brooklyn and blocked five shots.
