Aaron Dell named ECHL goaltender of the week

WEST VALLEY CITY — The Utah Grizzlies' Aaron Dell was named the ECHL goaltender of the week on Tuesday.

The Utah Grizzlies have been on quiet a streak since Christmas break, and one of the reason is goaltender Dell.

Dell went 2-0-0 with a 1.44 goals-against average and a saver percentage of 0.949 in two starts last week. The Grizzlies are an ECHL best at 10-2-2-2 since the Christmas break, during which Dell has gone 8-1-0-1.

Dell stopped 26 shots in a 3-2 win over Bakersfield on Friday, then made 30 more saves, and stopped all three shootout attempts he faced, in the Grizzlies 2-1 win over the Condors on Saturday.

Head coach Tim Branham said, “Imagine if we had Dell all year,” regarding the recent performances by his goaltender, who has appeared in 16 games with Utah this year and has a record of 12-3-0-1 with two shutouts.

In 12 of Dells' 16 starts he has allowed two goals or less and is tied for fourth in the ECHL with 2.10 goals-against average and is tied for sixth with a 0.921 save percentage.

The Grizzlies seeking team history on Wednesday night at the Maverik Center as they host the Las Vegas Wrangles at 7 p.m. A standing point would make them unbeaten in 11-straight home games and would break a 19-year-old record set back when the team went unbeaten in 10-straight games at home while based in Denver during the 1994-95 season.
