JOHANNESBURG (AP) - A South African gold-mining company says two employees have died in separate accidents since an earthquake triggered an underground fire in a mine shaft earlier this week, killing eight miners.
All 10 deaths happened in operations run by the Harmony company, which said Friday that it is shutting down its mines for a day to review safety procedures.
Harmony says two miners died Thursday, including one who was buried in earth at Kusasalethu mine in North West province and another who was killed in a blasting accident at Joel mine in Free State province.
The company said Thursday that rescue teams found the bodies of eight miners who died after a tremor set off a fire deep in the Doornkop mine, west of Johannesburg. A ninth miner is missing.
