BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Romania's prime minister has formed a new coalition government of loyalists, ethnic Hungarians, and a champion runner, and the leader will seek parliament's approval of it on Tuesday.
Victor Ponta did so after the junior Liberal Party withdrew from his coalition on Feb. 25 after its nomination for interior minister was turned down.
Romania also is in the process of preparing for a presidential election in November.
The new Cabinet proposed Monday would include minsters from Ponta's Social Democratic Party; a party that represents Romania's 1.4 million ethnic Hungarians; and Gabriela Szabo, the 5,000-meter gold medalist in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and a three-time world champion at 5,000 and 1,500 meters.
