London mayor seeks stronger bonds on bombing anniversary

LONDON (AP) — London Mayor Sadiq Khan has vowed to do "everything possible" to prevent future extremist attacks,on the 11th anniversary of the bombing of the London transit system.

Khan said Thursday he is taking steps to build community cohesion to prevent radicalism.

"By strengthening the bonds between Londoners from different backgrounds and focusing on real neighborhood policing, we are making it easier for people to speak out and help root out and prevent radicalization and extremism," he said.

Khan is London's first Muslim mayor. He spoke on the anniversary of the July 7, 2005, attacks that killed 52 people and injured 700 on London's transport network.

A wreath-laying ceremony honoring victims will take place today at London's Hyde Park.
