UNDATED (AP) — U.S. President Donald Trump againsaid he is considering barring entry to flights coming from Brazil due to the spread of COVID-19 in Latin America’s hardest-hit country. Hours later Brazil reported more than a thousand deaths from the disease for the first time in a 24-hour period. The health ministry’s announcement of 1,179 deaths on Tuesday boosted the nation’s death toll to 17,971. Brazil has 271,628 confirmed cases, the third most in the world after Russia and the U.S. Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro, who like Trump has previously downplayed the disease and encouraged supporters to go back to work, neither responded to Trump’s remarks nor commented on the record daily figure.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Former Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday won Oregon’s Democratic presidential primary. The results were no surprise, as Biden is his party’s presumptive nominee. Biden outpaced Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who both suspended their campaigns earlier in the year. President Donald Trump, who was unopposed, won the Oregon GOP presidential contest. In presidential elections Oregon is a solidly blue state. the last time a GOP nominee won the state was 1984 when Ronald Reagan beat Walter Mondale.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A federal judge has ordered Texas to allow any of the state’s 16 million voters to cast a ballot by mail over fears of the coronavirus. The ruling Tuesday paves the way for what would be one of the most dramatic expansions of mail-in voting in the country. Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who says fear of catching the virus doesn't meet the standard to vote by mail, says he'll appeal. Texas will hold primary runoff elections in July.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump joined Senate Republicans on Capitol Hill for what is perhaps one of the largest social gatherings in locked-down Washington: their weekly luncheon. During a freewheeling chat Tuesday, Trump implored Senate Republicans to “be tough” on Democrats heading into the fall election and touted his own poll numbers against rival Joe Biden. The meeting came as Congress and the White House consider next steps on virus aid. House Democrats approved a $3 trillion pandemic relief package. But Republicans said they want to wait and see how earlier aid is being spent before they approve more funds.

EDENVILLE, Mich. (AP) — Two breached dams caused by several days of rainfall and rising water has forced the evacuation of about 10,000 people in mid-Michigan. For the second time in less than 24 hours families living along two lakes and a river were ordered Tuesday to leave home. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for locations along the Tittabawassee River after the breach at the Edenville Dam in northern Midland County and the Sanford Dam located about eight miles downriver. Emergency responders went door-to-door early Tuesday warning residents of the rising water. Some were able to return home, only to be told to leave again following the dam’s breach.
