GARLAND, Box Elder County — A grass fire on Friday afternoon prompted an I-15 closure at the Riverside exit and an evacuation for Harley Drive residents.
The Garland Fire Department responded to a grass fire in Garland and issued an evacuation for all Harley Drive residents. Meanwhile, the department told Radio Hill to be ready to go if needed.
The Harley Fire was estimated to be 200 to 300 acres, according to the fire department.
I-15 was also closed in both directions at the Riverside exit, from mile marker 381 to 385, the department said. UDOT estimated clearance at 6:40 p.m. Friday.
The fire was burning north of Tremonton and west of Garland along I-15, according to Utah Fire Info. Structures and critical infrastructure, including power lines, roadways and water systems, were threatened.
In its X post, Utah Fire Info underscored the importance of Garland residents following instructions from local officials and evacuating immediately if told to do so. Utah Fire Info also asked nearby residents to avoid the area.
