Wildlife officials investigating bear attack

BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — State wildlife officials are investigating after a hunter was attacked by a bear over the weekend.

The 47-year-old Stevensville man and his father were hunting bear in the Fish Creek Lake area in extreme southwestern Montana when the attack occurred on Sunday afternoon.

The Montana Standard (http://bit.ly/1udCmhv ) reports that on Monday the victim's father led a bear specialist, game wardens and U.S. Forest Service rangers into the area where the attack occurred.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokeswoman Andrea Jones of Bozeman said officials are trying to determine what happened.

Officials offered no update on the victim's condition or injuries. He was being treated at a Seattle hospital. His name has not been released.

Authorities have not said whether a black bear or a grizzly attacked the man.
