SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has approved a bill that will allow towns to adopt stricter campaign finance disclosure rules than the state.
The Republican governor signed the measure Friday.
It will let town and city officials enact stricter regulations for campaign spending by municipal candidates. If a town does not adopt its own rules, the state's rules will apply.
The bill was sponsored by Republican Rep. Jack Draxler of North Logan. It passed the House in a 66-3 vote and was approved unanimously by the Senate.
It will take effect on May 12.
