UND student receives school's 1st drone training scholarship

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A University of North Dakota student has received the school's first-ever training scholarship for unmanned aircraft.

Kristopher Chachula (CHAH'-chew-lah) is a senior from Orange County, California. He was awarded a scholarship that will go annually to a senior graduating with a major in unmanned aircraft systems.

Chachula is currently an intern with the Northern Plains UAS Test Site. He was previously a console operator for UND and NASA, where he operated the International Space Station agricultural camera.

The scholarship will allow Chachula to receive hands-on training on the Federal Aviation Administration's first certified small drone.
