TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Pima Community College is extending a fall registration deadline to accommodate students who may be affected by a Tucson bus strike.

The school announced Thursday that it is pushing the deadline for adding classes for the fall semester to Sept. 8.

The previous deadline was Tuesday.

Chancellor Lee Lambert says the bus strike, which took effect three weeks ago, has presented a difficult situation for many students as well as staff and administrators.

Pima Community College has six campuses across Tucson.

Thousands of riders have been without steady public transportation in the city's longest transit strike in recent history.

Negotiations between a union representing bus drivers, mechanics and operators and Sun Tran broke down Aug. 6.

Wages and safety are among the issues of contention.
